Fish (two lines)

Fish (1978) is a schematic representation of a fish in water as constructed solely through the use of two individual lines. This is an exemplary demonstration of the dexterity with which Greaves makes use of precise line and colour to produce a simplistic yet striking image.

The medium of acrylic with collage on canvas was used prolifically by Greaves during this period to create a blended, mottled surface to his canvases, creating both texture and a smooth transitional blend of tonally coherent colours. The technical execution of the work is also used to be a catalyst for the exploration of movement within a static image
